ACCOLADES

I think everyone should do what they love. People will generally do their best if they love what they do. While, I'm a guitar player looking for a band and that may or may not happen, I do have a passion for music, mainly heavy rock and traditional metal, symphonic metal and great lead guitar players.  I really admire those who make music their living because I know for most it's an uphill battle spurred mainly by the love of doing it.

I had the good fortune to meet Mia (Coldheart) Karlsson and the band mates from CRUCIFIED BARBARA. They were the first band I ever actually met and spent time with, but I was so taken aback by how nice and friendly they were, I became inspired to pick up the guitar and take a real interest, so I thank Mia in particular.

Over the past several years, I've had the good fortune to write review concerts and albums for Amps and Green Screens. It's expanded my life immeasurably and redeveloped my love for photography as well. I  owe a huge THANK YOU to Damian Cousins who took a chance on me. My very first concert write up was in Prague, Czech Republic. I went there with my son Michael. Michael is seen elsewhere on this web page admiring the view of Prague. We had a great host in Stanik Sykora and Katie his daughter. They were nothing but cordial and made us feel right at home. We were there to support both GIRLSCHOOL and THE AGONY.  Many of the people from those bands will understand the picture on this page. Kim McAuliffe of GIRLSCHOOL dedicated the song "Yeah Right" to Michael and me at the gig for flying 6,000 miles to see that gig. That was cool.

I'm thankful to Tracey Lamb (GIRLSCHOOL and ROCK GODDESS) who suggested I see the Anvil Movie. This movie gave me a good understanding of the struggle most bands have, that these folk have day jobs too. Didn't know I'd come to meet ANVIL the band too. See this movie, it will open your eyes to many things.

I also want to thank Steve "Lips" Kudlow of ANVIL. Lips is a down to Earth guy and does what he loves. Practically everyone knows who he is, just about everywhere in the world. Steve took the time to visit with me and share some intimate feelings after my mother passed away. That meant a lot to me. He took the time to reach out to me, practically a stranger, when even some of the people who I thought were friends, didn't bother to take the time to wish me condolences. I so appreciate his big heart.

I also want to thank Denise Dufort and Jax Chambers with GIRLSCHOOL. I started following this band about 1982. Little did I know I'd some day meet them. I started an American based GIRLSCHOOL Facebook page with Denise, hoping they would come to the States. When they came with CRUCIFIED BARBARA I was ecstatic. They let us hang with them in Prague, at the Whisky in LA and in Minneapolis.  Kelly Johnson (RIP) was the lead guitarist for the band. She is seen in the big painting on the left on the background photo on this page. She passed away in 2007.  As a consistent thing, I've always loved GIRLSCHOOL's music. It was a sad day for many family, friends and fans. I've gotten the good fortune to have met some of Kelly's friends because of GIRLSCHOOL and I can tell you they are all fantastic people.  We raised $250 from prints made of Kelly's painting (done by Ocean Clark) and we donated that to Trinity Hospice in London, in her name. The song on this page features Kelly on lead vocals. One of 20 prints is seen in this background photo in the bottom right. I thank Denise and Jax for their encouragement.

I want to thank my wife Marta who puts up with me and my "projects" and wild ass ideas. She keeps me in check, much to my irritation  :) . I have two completely great kids with my son Michael and daughter Melissa. I am so proud of both of you. You are great people and I'm glad God gave you to us.

Most people in my life have not supported my dreams, but that's OK, they are not necessary along that line for dreams are an individual's. I never waited for anyone to tell me it was OK to do something if I had a passion for it. If I don't hurt anyone else, why not? Maybe that is selfish, but I think it's God's way of fulfilling my destiny, whatever that is. I think we should support everyone's dreams, if they think it will make them whole as an individual.

Do what you say and mean it. Do everything to hold your word as sacred and if you can't, apologize, try to make things right and ask God to help you do better. Try to see people's good side first until they show you otherwise.  I'm thankful to those friends of Bill Wilson and Bob Smith. I owe my life to God and those people. There doesn't have to be competition between people. Working together we can BOTH be better off.

I'll end with my favorite quote from Will Rogers: "Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there."  Don't get run over. Yeah Right!
